R.A. REED PRODUCTIONS BUILDS HOLIDAY SHOW FOR LONG-RUNNING
"FABULOUS PALM SPRINGS FOLLIES"
PORTLAND,
Ore. - Nov. 15, 2000 - R.A. Reed Productions, a Portland-based scenic
company, has built three of the sets for "The Fabulous Palm Springs
Follies" Holiday Show, which debuted Nov. 7 and runs through
Dec. 31. "The Fabulous Palm Spring Follies" is performed
at the Historic Plaza Theatre in Palm Springs, Cal.
"The Fabulous Palm Springs Follies" is a razzle-dazzle,
song and dance vaudeville-style extravaganza showcasing the music
and dance of the first half century. The Holiday Show recalls a 1930s
and 40s Winter Fantasy. Reed Productions built the opening scene,
the Christmas scene and the Old West scene for the entirely new production,
which kicks off the company's 10th season.
Reed Productions worked with designer David Mitchell to bring to the
show its expertise in engineering a multitude of chase sequences required
for the opening scene Theatre Marquis, which was required to strike
in four minutes. Building the scenery was relatively easy; the challenge
came in creating a set that could come together and apart, out a side
door, in a quick scene change, while containing all the electronics
for 7,000 lights. Reed Productions added all the extra touches to
assure a smooth strike and set up for all 245 performances.
More than 1.5 million people have seen "The Fabulous Palm Springs
Follies" since its opening, with annual attendance topping 180,000.
One of the most unique aspects to the company is that each of its
professional cast members is 56 to 87 years old. The Follies routinely
features international renowned guest stars, hilarious and awe-inspiring
variety acts and among the greatest names in show business today.
